Pathway to SCUBA Certification

1. Review the medical form (click here). Before registering for class, you should review the medical questionnaire. If you answer "yes" to questions #3, 5, or 10 on page 1 or any questions on page 2, you will need a doctor to sign the form to clear you to participate.

2. Register for class. Select one of the NAUI Open Water class sessions below, or register for a private class. You can opt to add a Nitrox certification to your Open Water class, if you'd like.

3. Complete your NAUI e-learning. After you register for class, you'll receive an email to activate your NAUI account and complete your e-learning. Complete this from home before you come to in-person class. It takes a few hours to complete, at your own pace.

4. Attend your academic and pool sessions.  Attend the "confined water" portion of your class. We will provide tanks, weights, buoyancy compensator, and regulator for class. We'll provide mask/fins/snorkel if you need it, but we recommend purchasing your own set. We have sets available for purchase at the pool if you'd like to try them first.

5. Complete your check-out dives. After you successfully complete your confined water training, you will be eligible to complete your open water check-out. You will complete a minimum of 4 dives under the supervision of an instructor, completing a maximum of 3 training dives per day.

More on check-out dives: You can complete them with SELA SCUBA instructors on any of our planned Panama City or Caribbean trips, or you can get a referral form to complete checkout dives on your own trip. Your instructor will discuss options during your class. You should complete check-out dives within 6 months of your confined water class, or you will need to come back to the pool for a refresher.

SCUBA Refresher

If you are a certified diver and haven't been diving in awhile, we highly recommend a pool refresher!
